J-1: Hybrid/other modalities to be "in-person"
The US Statement Department in June 2023 issued Guidance Directive 2023-01. This directive contains the following language:
" ... college and university students may take in-person classes with virtual components. Hybrid classes that predominantly require in-person student attendance would be considered in-person courses."
To determine if your hybrid course(s) meets the requirements to be considered "In-person":
- you must complete and submit the following petition
- the petition will be evaluated to determine if the course meets in-person requirements
- courses that do not meet "in-person" requirements may be taken if the student has enough "in-person" courses.
DO NOT ASSUME that your hybrid course(s) meets the conditions to be considered "in-person".
